Greek myth of Syrinx from a feminist perspective. In the classic telling, Pan is pursuing the wood nymph Syrinx who prays to the river to conceal her from his unwanted advances. Using reeds to breathe underwater, she is transformed by the river into reeds, which Pan then cuts to make his flute, or syrinx. He is often depicted as a sad lover mourning the loss of his "love." Strangeweather's re-telling asks Syrinx for her side of the story.

pressed into the mud at the river bank
